COLUMBUS — Through the joint efforts of the Upper Sandusky Rotary Club and the Lviv Ratusha Rotary Club, with a grant from Rotary International, a van has been purchased for the St. Michael’s Children’s Home in Rativici. This van will provide transportation for children there to medical appointments, music lessons, camp and other necessary and fun activities! This van is for the yellow house. Efforts are underway to help raise money to purchase a van for the green house. SARA volunteer, Lana Sakash is working on this project. SARA contributions helped purchase a used van for the red house last year. Thanks to all who have helped! If you wish to help with SARA projects, please contact Lana C. Sakash, Jeannie Szilagyi, any other SARA volunteers, or the Ohio Conference office.

TRANSCARPATHIA — Dr. Istvan Turcsanyi visited us at our home last night. Ralph and Sue Quellhorst agreed to release funds from “SARA’s Children” to Dr. Turcsanyi. He will travel to Minneapolis to observe and receive special training in treating children afflicted with cerebral palsy. He was most grateful for this opportunity. The cost of the airfare and the training were his responsibility. SARA’s Children’s funds will be applied to his food and lodging.

We visited the Nagy Dobrony Reformed Good Samaritan Childrens Home today. We presented the administrator, Mr.Laszlo Katko with funds from SARA to complete construction of an addition to the cafeteria in the Quellhorst Guest House. Laszlo stated that Marty Siegel had contacted a potential donor in Holland. This donor subsequently sent funding for the cost of the above-named addition. Mr. Katko asked permission to use the donation from SARA to install a water filtration system. The local health department has determined that the well water used in the home has a high level (ten times the acceptable level)of magnesium. We agreed that he proceed with this project.
Thanks to all for your prayers. We look forward to your visits this summer.

Stephen and Jeannie

A big THANK YOU to Trinity United Church of Christ in McCutchenville, Ohio. Reverend Stephen Szilagy spoke there about SARA back on February 26, 2012. Co-President Jeannie Szilagyi delivered the children’s message and challenged them to gather 50 pairs of shoes. I am happy to report that Reverend David Jones has now delivered over 60 pairs of shoes to be shipped to the poor! If your church would like to be involved, please contact Co-President Lana Sakash at sakash@bright.net or 419-927-2836 as the Szilagyis will soon be in Hungary for four months.

The Kingsville Presbyterian Church has collected over 100 pairs of shoes which are already packed and ready to be shipped to Transcarpathia, Ukraine. Reverend Szilagyi delivered the message at the worship service and the Sunday School children were greeted by three teachers without shoes, as well as Jeannie, again. Is any other church open to the challenge? Roma communities receive shoes through the outreach programs of the Nagy Dobrony Reformed Good Samaritan Children’s Home.

COLUMBUS–Dr. Roman Schnitzer, Minister of Health for the State of Transcarpathia, Ukraine and Dr. Ivan Malesh, Administrator of Beregova City Hospital in Transcarpathia visited the US for several weeks as guests of SARA on a medical fact-finding mission.Drs. Schnitzer (a general surgeon) and Malesh (a neurologist) came to see advanced medical practices, make contacts and form relationship within the American medical community. During their Ohio sojourn they visited a broad spectrum of medical and health care facilities ranging from the OSU Medical Center, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic to Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut, Ohio and four levels of nursing homes and hospice care facilities.

“My hope,” commented SARA Founder and Executive Director Stephen Szilagyi, “Is that our visitors will be able to create the type of health care we have here in the US back in Ukraine. As well, by forming personal relationships, diagnostic exchanges and medical advice partnerships with American doctors they can get help diagnosing problems via e-mail within a day at most.
